The Sacred Heart Academy
The Sacred Heart Academy is a private Catholic Boarding School in St Louis MO.  “Founded in 1818 by St. Philippine Duchesne, the Academy of the Sacred Heart educates children in grades Pre-K through 8 (grades 7 & 8 are single-gender). A distinctive educational experience is rooted in the love of God, centered in an awareness of the uniqueness of each child, steeped in 192 years of history and nourished by a desire to balance all aspects of a child's growth: spiritual, intellectual, emotional, relational, social and physical.”
In 1855 Kate entered St Louis academy. While here, her father was killed in a train accident.
After only two months into her term at Sacred Heart, Kate came home and was to be educated by her great-grandmother. Eliza Faris O’Flaherty, Kate’s mother, was a member of the prominent French-Creole community and a member of an exclusive social circle. Two years after her fathers’ death, Kate returned to the Academy of the Sacred Heart.  At the Academy of Sacred Heart she was assigned to write Commonplace Book. This book was the first record of her writings and diary of her academic and social life. At school she was known as a cynic and accomplished pianist.
In 1868 Kate graduates from the Academy of the Sacred Heart
“Today there are 138 Schools of the Sacred Heart in the world — 21 in this country — all united by the same philosophy of education as articulated in the five Goals of Sacred Heart Education: Faith, Intellectual Values, Social Action, Community and Personal Growth.”
